4 Must-dos in the Far North of New Zealand

Planning on venturing to ‘The Cape’, New Zealand’s most northern point?

Here are four recommended must-dos for a day trip up to the Far North you won’t want to miss:

Ride the Te Paki Sand Dunes:
Grab your boogie board and sand surf down some seriously steep dunes. cowabunga!
Boogie boards are available for hire on site $15.

Visit the top of Cape Reinga:
See two oceans collide (The pacific and The Tasman sea), visit an iconic lighthouse and understand the Maori belief of where spirits of the dead enter the underworld.

Drive on 90-Mile Beach:
Officially a highway and one of New Zealand’s longest stretches of beach, 90 Mile beach is generally safe to drive on if you follow the rules and using a 4WD vehicle highly recommended!

Have a kiwi classic for dinner – Fish and Chips in Mangonui!
Stop into one of many local Fish and Chip restaurants in Doubtless Bay on your way back. We recommend ‘Fresh and Tasty’ as you can enjoy your meal with a refreshing beer in the historic pub next door. Or ‘Mangonui Fish Shop’ for a dining experience with harbour views.

Driving distance from The Old Oak Hotel to Cape Reinga – 1hour and 50 minutes.
